Unwelcome Home (Poem)

Outstretched arms,

Never wide enough,

Surprised eyes, forced joy,

Empty excitement.

It’s been far too long, the mouths say,

Forever isn’t long enough, the hearts say.

Hugs and kisses, drinks and dishes,

Beautiful…

Memories, broken hearted,

Reunite the dear departed,

Anger…fear…

Forever uneasy, the stomach gets queazy,

What do you want? Why are you here?

No welcome mats,

No well made beds,

No warm, safe place to lay my head,

I walk on eggshells and lightly tread,

This sad, unwelcome home.
